HEBATNYA DIASPORA MELAYU

Salleh Said Keruak

1. Melayu adalah bangsa diaspora yang hebat.  Hidupnya tidak hanya terkongkong di tanah air sendiri, tetapi bertebaran di seluruh pelosok dunia—di Australia, Britain, Sri Lanka, Afrika Selatan, Surinam, Arab Saudi, China, Madagascar, Kemboja, Mesir, Perancis, Sepanyol, Belanda, Amerika Syarikat dan lainnya.

6. Keempat, hebatnya kerana mereka berjaya menjadi tokoh terkenal di negara baharu. Contohnya Samara Vijayatungga di Sri Lanka, dan Imam Abdullah Kadi Abdus Salaam yang merupakan tokoh Islam di Cape Town.

7. Kelima, hebatnya kerana mereka berjaya di daerah baharu mereka. Contohnya, Datuk Mohd. Aris Ahmad dilantik menjadi Datuk Bandar Winsford di England pada tahun 1989 dan Datuk Fathol Razak Abdul Rawak yang merupakan usahawan Melayu berjaya di New York, Amerika Syarikat.

Salleh Said Keruak

1. Felda ditubuhkan pada 1 Julai 1956 oleh Perdana Menteri kedua, Allahyarham Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.

3. Sejak penubuhannya, Felda membangun pesat dengan memiliki 850,000 hektar tanah tanaman, 38 buah anak syarikat, 75 buah kilang minyak kelapa sawit, dan 7 buah kilang pengekstrak minyak kelapa sawit.

Salleh Said Keruak

The confusion about who is really heading Pakatan

Salleh Said Keruak

The press conference that Pakatan Harapan held a few days ago to clear up the confusion as to who is really heading the opposition coalition has, in fact, created even more confusion than it has cleared up. Now there are three heads of Pakatan Harapan with no clear indication of where the buck stops. It appears like they are just giving three different titles to basically three people performing the same function.

The political reality, however, is that the party that holds the most number of seats in Parliament becomes the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. In Barisan Nasional’s case this would be Umno, mainly because Umno holds the most number of seats. In Pakatan Harapan’s case, DAP would be the one that holds the most number of seats. And this would mean DAP will get to decide who becomes PM and DPM and not Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or Anwar Ibrahim, as they are trying to suggest.

This is what Pakatan Harapan is trying to hide from Malaysians.Pakatan Harapan is saying that Anwar will be the PM but in the meantime there will be a temporary PM until Anwar gets released from jail.

Kit Siang wants the Malays to think that the PM and DPM will always be Malay. He knows that this is the only way the Malays will vote for Pakatan Harapan. But then, without PAS, Pakatan Harapan is not going to get Malay votes that easily. Furthermore, DAP will still decide who gets to become the PM and DPM. And Mahathir thinks he is the glue that holds Pakatan Harapan together in spite of their many differences. But then his party, PPBM, has only one seat and does not really have power to say much.

WITHOUT PAS, IS THE OPPOSITION STILL STRONG?

Salleh Said Keruak

1. When DAP fought on its own strength in past general elections, its achievement was far from encouraging. In the 1969 general election, when the opposition then performed well, DAP secured only 13 seats, 1974 (9), 1978 (16), 1982 (9), 1986 (24), 1990 (20), 1995 (9).

2. The great achievement of DAP in national politics was only achieved in the 2008 general election when it struck a political cooperation with PAS. In this GE, DAP won 28 seats and PKR (31). In the 2013 general election, with continued cooperation with PAS, DAP captured 38 seats and PKR (30).

3. Now, when PAS is no longer with the opposition coalition, is the opposition still strong?

4. In 2013 general election,  84.84%  of the 13,268,002 registered voters cast their votes. The overall result showed that the BN accumulated (5,237,699 votes), PKR (2,254,328 votes), PAS (1,633,389 votes), DAP (1,736,267 votes), and the rest secured by other parties. In terms of number of seats, PKR won 30 seats, PAS 21 seats and DAP 38 seats.

5. The great achievements of DAP and PKR in the 2008 and 2013 GE weredue to the support of PAS who was then an ally in the Pakatan Rakyat. Without the support of PAS voters, of course DAP and PKR would not have achieved this victory. Without the support of PAS, DAP and PKR would not be formidable anymore.

6. Imagine without PAS, 70% of PAS voters in the 2013 general election will no longer vote for the opposition pact? With this shift of votes, the strength of the opposition is certainly weakened/lame.

7. PKR and Amanah cannot help the opposition to draw Malay votes. This is because both parties have no strong political base and their affiliation is fragile. With this shortcoming, the newly-formed Pakatan Harapan would  not get the confidence of the voters.

8. With this scenario, the dream of Pakatan Harapan to capture Putrajaya in the 14th General Election seems to be just that, a dream.

9. Indeed, history shows that PAS is the key to the strength of the opposition just as UMNO is the backbone of BN's strength. Now, the reality is that the DAP is the key to the Pakatan Harapan.

TANPA PAS, KUATKAH PEMBANGKANG?

Salleh Said Keruak

Salleh Said Keruak

1. Senarai barisan kepimpinan pakatan pembangkang yang diumumkan semalam menimbulkan tanda tanya.

Salleh Said Keruak

If Anwar was really unjustly jailed then apologise for it

SALLEH SAID KERUAK

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that Anwar Ibrahim was unjustly convicted for sodomy and that the decision of the court was influenced by the government was both shocking and comical at the same time. In essence, Mahathir is saying that Anwar was fixed up by a corrupt judiciary and that the judges are dishonest. That alone tantamount to contempt of court and saying so in a UK press interview is nothing short of trying to smear the image of the country.

The onus, therefore, is on Mahathir to prove what he alleges and prove he genuinely and sincerely believes that Anwar is a victim of a political conspiracy by apologising to Anwar for everything he has said about and done to Anwar since 1998. It is pointless to allege that Anwar was convicted for a crime he never committed and yet not make amends for it by at least saying sorry.

Failure to do the right thing by apologising for what Mahathir says was an injustice done to Anwar would prove what Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said, which is Mahathir fears the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) that is investigating Bank Negara’s RM30 billion losses gambling on the forex market. Mahathir’s main concern is that Anwar will testify against him and that the truth behind the RM30 billion losses would be revealed. This, therefore, is merely a move by Mahathir to appease Anwar and was not made sincerely.

FAKTA POLITIK PERLU TEPAT

Salleh Said Keruak

Salleh Said Keruak

12. Nilai kegembiraan ini diukur dengan menggunakan lapan indikator iaitu pendapatan GDP per kapita rakyat, sokongan sosial kerajaan, jangka hidup rakyat, kebebasan rakyat untuk membuat pilihan hidup, sikap kemurahan hati rakyat, kadar salah laku rasuah, tahap keyakinan rakyat dan sikap kemanusiaan rakyat.

Kuatnya fitnah pembangkang

BILA AHLI PARLIMEN KLUANG BERKHAYAL DENGAN ANDAIAN

Salleh Said Keruak

Sesungguhnya, andaian Chin Tong tentang perancangan stsrategik Najib memakan diri.

What a dictatorship really means

SALLEH SAID KERUAK

The concept and dogma of a dictatorship started from the Greek and Roman eras and did not initially mean something negative but just meant the person who dictates. A dictator, which is a Roman concept, means a political leader who wields absolute power. During Roman times it was not the Emperor but the Magistrates who wielded this power. In fact, they had more power than even the Emperors themselves. So a dictator does not have to be the person right at the top.

The argument that there cannot be two dictators at the same time is also not true. Russia had Stalin and Lenin both dictators at the same time while during the French Revolution both Robespierre and Napoleon emerged as dictators of France. And China saw more than two dictators at the same time while, in Cuba, Che Guevara abandoned the revolution because he did not want to be a joint-dictator with Castro.

Kit Siang said the UMNO propaganda campaign of lies, fake news and false information is meant to demonise him. It is more like the other way around. Is it not Pakatan Harapan that is planning an anti-Najib roadshow this month to not only demonise Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak but his wife, Rosmah Mansor, as well? So who is spreading fake news and false information and misleading Malaysians on what is really happening?

Mahathir thinks everyone is like him

Salleh Said Keruak

Today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is going to arrest the opposition leaders. That is the most ridiculous thing Mahathir has said so far and there is no basis for saying it.

From 1998 to 2001 Mahathir detained many of those who opposed him. And he used the detention without trial law to detain those he could not charge in court.

The Human Rights Watch said in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, etc., that Malaysia under Mahathir is a police state while Mahathir is a dictator. Mahathir replied that Malaysia cannot practice western-style democracy because of the danger of racial problems like what happened in 1969.

Mahathir is making unfounded allegations against Prime Minister Najib because he has nothing left to say. Maybe Mahathir is worried about the RCI on the US$10 billion forex losses.

Happy Eid-el-fitri

Salleh Said Keruak

We celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan, the month when all Muslims are supposed to restrain, refrain and reflect. Ramadan is the month we keep our lust and desires in check, we discard our arrogance and temper, we demonstrate humility and humbleness, we harbour compassion and love for others, and we spend our time reflecting on our deeds and our duties. In fact, meditation or muraqaba would be what Muslims in fasting should be doing.

The first day of Shawwal is the day to celebrate our victory during the month of Ramadan -- the victory over our own self, what can be called the small jihad. During Ramadan we not only refrain from eating, drinking and smoking, but also from hurting others, either physically, verbally or emotionally. And Shawwal is the day we ask and offer forgiveness for our transgressions, whether intentionally or otherwise.

Unfortunately, not all Muslims understand the spirit of Ramadan and Shawwal, not only in Malaysia but all over the world. Conflicts and animosity continue and we allow our egos, hatred and anger to cloud our judgement. This is not Islam and is not what Ramadan and Shawwal stand for. So let us celebrate Shawwal as a day of peace and forgiveness, not only for the good of the ummah but for the good of all Malaysians.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Salleh Said Keruak

Remember when the US was accused of interfering?

Salleh Said Keruak

During the years of 1998 to 2003, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was very angry with the United States of America over what he alleged was that superpower’s interference in Malaysian politics. Mahathir was so upset that he called Anwar an American agent -- and in 2003 Anwar sued the NST for reporting that. Mahathir grumbled that when Anwar went to the US he received a 21-gun salute even though he was only the Deputy Prime Minister while, as Prime Minister, Mahathir did not receive the same red carpet treatment. The US then called Anwar a ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ and this angered Mahathir even more.

To Mahathir, Malaysia’s politics is Malaysia’s internal affairs and outsiders should not interfere in Malaysia’s internal affairs. In fact, this has been the international practice for a long time. Countries can, of course, comment about the internal affairs of other countries if it involves matters such as human rights, civil liberties, child labour, child sex, genocide, and so on. Other than that you respect the sovereignty of another country.

The problem with the United States Justice Department’s announcement of 15th June 2017, however, plus the first one on 20th July 2016, is that their statement is not confined to the subject matter: which is about an alleged crime committed on US soil. A large part of the DoJ statement talks about what is happening internally in Malaysia, and an even larger part has no relevance to the subject of whether a crime has been committed on US soil as alleged. The main issue here is not the US or the DoJ but that they are quoting from the complaint that they received. So the issue here is who are the parties who lodged that complaint with the US DoJ?

The DoJ announcement is meant to distract us from the opposition’s problems

Salleh Said Keruak

The opposition Pakatan Harapan is really bankrupt of ideas if they need to resort to inviting foreign intervention into Malaysian politics. Pakatan Harapan is also misleading Malaysians about the implications of the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) announcement yesterday.

The DoJ is acting based merely on the complaints it received. And the DoJ made it clear that “a civil forfeiture complaint is merely an allegation that money or property was involved in or represents the proceeds of a crime and that these allegations are not proven until a court says so.”

The implications to this is those against Datuk Seri Najib are trying to get the United States involved in Malaysia’s internal politics. This is an act of treason and during Tun Dr Mahathir’s time he would use the Internal Security Act (ISA) to detain such people without trial.

They did the same in July last year and the intention was to use the DoJ announcement to attack Datuk Seri Najib. It failed last year and they are trying it again, hoping that this time it will work. There is actually no substance in the allegation and even the DoJ said it is a civil action based on complaints and not based on any court decision. In fact, no court action has even been launched yet.

Pakatan Harapan is in mess and they appear to be on the brink of a breakup. So they need this distraction to take attention away from the problems the opposition is facing. And this is all that the DoJ announcement is: an attempt to smear the Prime Minister and distract Malaysians from the fact that the opposition is in dire straits.

The Opposition is attacking Datin Seri Rosmah to camouflage its weaknesses

Salleh Said Keruak

After a quiet of about four years the Opposition has relaunched its anti-Rosmah campaign and is circulating fabricated stories not supported by any evidence alleging all sorts of things regarding Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor. In fact, many of these stories have already been proven false when they first came out years ago. So, again, Malaysia is being feasted with an orgy of lies.

The Opposition is hoping that by bringing back the old stories regarding Datin Seri Rosmah’s shopping Malaysians would focus on that issue instead and would not notice the confusion about who Pakatan Harapan’s Prime Minister-in-waiting is. Pakatan Harapan is at the most critical stage of its very short life and if it cannot resolve this matter Pakatan Harapan is going to disintegrate just like Pakatan Rakyat did not too long ago.

The Opposition needs a new distraction and as much as they try to resurrect the 1MDB issue they know it is a failed strategy because the issue is already dead and RM42 billion has not disappeared into thin air, as Mahathir had originally alleged. So now Malaysians are again being fed doses of lies regarding Datin Seri Rosmah. The question is has Pakatan Harapan resolved all its problems? They cannot even resolve just one issue, who their leader is. And they are hoping if Malaysians start talking about Datin Seri Rosmah the problems plaguing the Opposition can be swept under the carpet.

Mahathir’s strange confession today

Salleh Said Keruak

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a strange confession today. He confessed that it cost hundreds of millions to win a general election. In fact, Mukhriz Mahathir said that the total actually comes to RM1.5 billion, which was also what the opposition alleged Mahathir had spent in the 1999 general election.

In 1999, businessmen known to be loyal to Anwar Ibrahim or to the opposition complained that they were facing discrimination and persecution. They alleged that Mahathir’s government was forcing them to sell their companies or banks and that they suffered blacklisting by government departments and ministries.

The way Mahathir is grumbling, he gives an impression that those who support the opposition are dishonest people who cheat the government by evading tax. That is why all the opposition supporters or financiers are being subjected to investigation involving income tax evasion.

Mahathir also says Najib won the 1999 general election because of the 2,000 military votes. Mahathir was also accused of winning his seat in the 1999 general election with 2,000 phantom votes. When the press asked him about this allegation during a press conference in the early hours of 30th November 1999, Mahathir never denied it and replied, “Even the opposition does the same thing.”

SIAPA CALON PM BAGI PAKATAN HARAPAN

Salleh Said Keruak

In which town is Trump more popular than Najib?

Salleh Said Keruak

"TIME names Najib among world leaders 'less popular' than Trump, said Malaysiakini today. Time then names another four world leaders who together with Najib are less popular than Trump.

How did Time conduct this opinion poll? How many respondents were polled and where do these respondents live? Is Time saying that Najib and the other four world leaders are less popular than Trump in Terengganu and Kelantan or in New York City?

Hillary Clinton is supposed to be more popular than Donald Trump, and even President Obama supported her, but still Trump won the Presidency. And Time voted Anwar Ibrahim the man-of-the-year and more popular than Mahathir but yet Mahathir won the 1999 general election.

This so-called Time opinion poll is not relevant to Malaysian politics and will not really sway public opinion as those who support the opposition, or otherwise, are not going to shift just because Time says Trump is more popular than Najib outside the town of Pekan.

Sarawak Report stalks and harasses Rosmah Mansor

Salleh Said Keruak

Sarawak Report demonstrated an absolute lack of decorum and manners by stalking and harassing Rosmah Mansor today. We would expect people from so-called civilised England to at least show respect to the wife of a foreign Prime Minister but apparently diplomacy is reserved only for their own kind.

They shouted slanderous allegations that are nothing but a pack of lies while saying that freedom of the press allows them to say whatever they like. They then asked Rosmah why go to the UK if she does not want to be stalked.

The fact Sarawak Report refuses to publish their accounts and reveal their source of funds shows they are afraid of being transparent. Yet they accuse others of that.

The Sarawak Report people were absolutely rude. And the fact they felt they have a right to be rude demonstrates the low class of people we are dealing with.

A complete U-turn for Mahathir

Salleh Said Keruak

It is most ironical that last night in his speech in Gelang Patah Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did a complete U-turn from his May 2013 stance. In 2013, Mahathir called Lim Kit Siang a racist and asked that he be ‘buried’ in Gelang Patah.

“I have explained in my blog that DAP is not a Chinese chauvinist party. It is a multiracial party that is open to all races. I also noticed that DAP is much more Malaysian than any other government party. That is why I now work with DAP, because I feel comfortable with DAP,” said Mahathir last night.

For more than 44 years, from 1969 to 2013, Mahathir has been consistent in condemning DAP and its Chinese supporters. In 1969, Mahathir said he does not need Chinese votes to win the election and just based on Malay votes alone he can win. The Chinese then decided to vote for PAS and Yusof Rawa won instead. Mahathir then retaliated by writing his anti-Chinese book, The Malay Dilemma, which was banned by the government.

One thing that Mahathir has been very consistent about is his stand on DAP. Soon after the 2013 general election Mahathir attacked Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak for ‘wasting time’ on the Chinese voters, who would never vote for Barisan Nasional anyway, instead of focusing just on the Malay voters who are the backbone of the support for Umno.

Why this sudden and very drastic U-turn after more than 44 years of hating DAP? We can only assume that in his desperation Mahathir is scraping the bottom of the barrel because he realises that unless his party and Pakatan Harapan can get Chinese support they are going to get wiped out in the next general election because they have already lost the support of the Malay electorate.

Recycled spin more than ten years old

Salleh Said Keruak

This spin about disunity in Umno and/or Barisan Nasional Sabah is more than ten years old and keeps resurfacing from time to time. In fact, Sabah was supposed to be the backbone of '16 September' where 10 of the 30 MPs who were supposed to cross over were allegedly from Sabah.

In the end nothing happened each and every time. But that does not stop the opposition from resurrecting and recycling this story. And they do it each time they are facing problems and need to distract people from the mess the opposition is in.

The truth is Umno and Barisan Nasional Sabah have never been more united than now. Realising that the Prime Minister has been the target of a plot, Umno and Barisan Nasional Sabah have closed ranks and are standing solidly behind Chief Minister Musa Aman.

It is wishful thinking on the part of Opposition if they think there is a power struggle in Sabah, which is going to result in a change of state government. Sabah has demonstrated loyalty to the party and party leadership and will continue to do so.

Anwar Ibrahim changes his story every time

Salleh Said Keruak

Anwar Ibrahim’s press statement yesterday appears to have been tailored for the current political situation he has found himself in. When he is with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar says one thing. When he is opposed to Mahathir, he says something else. And now that he is, again, with Mahathir, Anwar adds a new twist to the story.

In 1993, Anwar denied Bank Negara had lost money playing the Forex market. This was in response to a question that Lim Kit Siang raised in Parliament, which you can check in the Parliament Hansard. In 1994, Anwar told Parliament it was a small loss, and only a ‘paper loss’. He also blamed the Bank Negara Governor for it and said the Governor had been asked to resign.

In 2012, in a forum in Penang, he changed his story. The forum was also told the loss was US$10 billion and they blamed three people for it, Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad included. Now Anwar says something else and blames just Nor Mohamed Yakcop. And this is why there is a need to further probe this matter. If the truth had been revealed 24 years ago we would not still be investigating the matter today.

Malaysia’s democracy at work

Salleh Said Keruak

Tomorrow is the coronation of His Majesty the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. No doubt Malaysia’s Agong is a Constitutional Monarchy, which many regard as a symbolic head of state. However, the position of the Agong is more than just symbolic and cannot be regarded as a rubber-stamp head of state.

Malaysia’s system is unique and not to be found anywhere else in the world. The Agong has a function to perform in maintaining checks and balances and is chosen by the Conference of Rulers and serves on a rotation basis. So even the Monarchy itself practices a form of democracy although the state rulers are hereditary.

The Constitutional Monarchy ensures stability and this has brought confidence to Malaysia, which foreign investors have ranked as the most politically-stable nation in South East Asia. We need to maintain this image and reputation and show the world that we choose our government through the ballot box and not through street violence like some countries, which just brings chaos in the aftermath of that change.

Mahathir and his fake news on Malaysia

Salleh Said Keruak

Today Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Malaysia has been labelled as amongst the ten most corrupt countries in the world. On 24th January 2017, CNBC came out with a report mentioning the ten most corrupt countries in the world as follows:

Somalia, South Sudan, North Korea, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, Guinea-Bissau and Venezuela.

The New York Times also came out with its report on 9th December 2016 more or less saying the same thing, as did the Independent UK on 25th January 2017 and Fortune.com on the same day. Last month, on 14th March 2017, CheatSheet came out with the 15 most corrupt countries in the world and still Malaysia was not on the list.

Even more interesting is the fact that ranker.com came out with the most corrupt countries list based on Transparency International’s report and Malaysia was not even in the top 100 list. So where did Mahathir get his facts from? Has someone been feeding him false news?

They all declare themselves as advisers just to deceive the public

Salleh Said Keruak

Umno’s leadership hierarchy is crystal clear on who is number one, number two and number three whereas in Pakatan Harapan until today Lim Kit Siang is so scared of declaring his leadership position.

All these so-called advisers are unelected and another word for unelected leader is dictator. They hide behind the word ‘adviser’ while single-handedly making all the decisions, which is how dictators normally do things. At least in Umno we are clear about the hierarchy and about who calls the shots. We cannot say the same for Pakatan Harapan.

Is this a scientific analysis or tea leaves reading?

Salleh Said Keruak

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is going to fall in the next general election. Is this based on a scientific study such as a poll or based on tea leaves reading?

The opposition is in such a mess that the voters do not see any alternative to the present government. What the voters want is economic and political stability and this is what the government is offering.

Fabricated allegations against the Prime Minister is not enough to oust him. We shall see how Tony Pua, who is a member of the PAC, defends his latest allegation in court. That will determine whether all those allegations were true or not.

An admission from Mahathir most welcomed

SALLEH SAID KERUAK

Today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that comparing him to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is not comparing apples to apples but is comparing apples to oranges. This is a most welcomed admission from Mahathir because this is what we have been trying to emphasize for some time.

Mahathir carries with him a lot of baggage. He was Prime Minister during the time a number of regimes surrounding Malaysia were ousted. And Mahathir was compared as apple-to-apples with these ousted dictators. So comparing Najib to Mahathir would be negative for Najib.

The western media has accused Mahathir of wasting RM100 billion of the nation's money with an estimated RM100 billion more which has been labelled as 'leakages'. This was published in a book and is another Mahathir legacy which Najib should not be compared with.

In 1969, Mahathir accused Tunku Abdul Rahman of being a Chinese lover who gave in to the Chinese and which made the Malays angry (and Umno sacked him because of that). In 2013, Mahathir accused Najib of neglecting the Malays and of pandering to the Chinese whereas it is the Malays who support Umno. For sure Najib cannot be compared to Mahathir.

It looks like DAP calls the shots after all

Salleh Said Keruak

Muhyiddin Yassin says there is no problem for a non-Malay to become Prime Minister, just like what Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad once said. The fact is whoever becomes Prime Minister is for DAP to say since DAP is the largest stakeholder in Pakatan. In 2008 DAP won 28 parliament seats and in 2013 they won 38 seats.

With currently only one parliament seat and two state seats, Pribumi is in no position to dictate anything. DAP is the dominant party and it calls the shots Therefore, Muhyiddin has to kowtow to DAP. Muhyiddin will do anything to please DAP and not upset Lim Kit Siang. In fact, Pribumi needs DAP more than DAP needs Pribumi. This means Muhyiddin has no objections with DAP being in the driver’s seat.

Hitler was also a patriot

SALLEH SAID KERUAK

Some people claim they are crticising the Prime Minister and are running down the country out of patriotism. Most historians agree that Adolf Hitler was also a patriot and that Naziism was the product of this patriotism. And 100 million people died because of this.

If anyone wants to impress us with his or her patriotism then it has to start with the spirit of 'Negaraku' and the Rukun Negara. You cannot be opposed to all this and have your own version and interpretation of patriotism.

The war in Serbia and Bosnia that took so many lives was an act of patriotism. So was the Vietnam War and the Cambodian 'killing fields'. But I am sure the millions of dead did not think so.

Patriotism is not by saying it but by what you do. And sabotaging Malaysia's economy by frightening off foreign investors is not an act of patriotism but an act of treason.

DAP should hold the chairmanship of Pakatan Harapan

Salleh Said Keruak

Lim Kit Siang, DAP's adviser, should hold the post of Pakatan Harapan's Chairman considering DAP has 38 parliament seats compared to only 27 for PKR, 6 for PAN and just 1 for Pribumi.

In the state assemblies DAP has 96 seats against just 48, 7 and 2 for PKR, PAN and Pribumi respectively. Minus the PAS seats, which is no longer a member of Pakatan Harapan, that makes DAP the largest party in the opposition coalition. And that also makes Pakatan Harapan DAP-dominated.

By appointing a Malay from one of the minority parties as the Pakatan Harapan Chairman it raises the question of whether Kit Siang is trying to give the opposition a Malay face. It creates also the impression that Pakatan Harapan is an Ali Baba arrangement.

Lim Kit Siang sepatutnya dilantik jawatan Pengerusi Pakatan Harapan

2. PKR pula memiliki 27 kerusi Parlimen dan 48 kerusi DUN. PAN memiliki 6 kerusi Parlimen dan 7 DUN. Akhir sekali Pribumi hanya memiliki satu kerusi Parlimen dan 2 kerusi DUN.

3. Apabila Lim Kit Siang cuba melantik pemimpin PKR, PAN atau Pribumi bagi menduduki jawatan Pengerusi Pakatan Harapan maka timbul tanda tanya apakah ini agenda beliau untuk sekali lagi memperdaya para pengundi Melayu.

4. Jika Lim Kit Siang enggan menyandang jawatan Pengerusi Pakatan Harapan dan sebaliknya melantik seorang Melayu untuk duduki jawatan tersebut maka ia akan memberi gambaran ianya hanya Pakatan Ali Baba.

Kit Siang should not live in a glass house and throw stones

Salleh Said Keruak

Lim Kit Siang talks about Umno's hegemony and 60-year rule. Umno may have been in power for 60 years but the party has been led by seven party presidents over those 60 years. Kit Siang, on the other hand, has been DAP's leader for 51 years.

Many grassroots leaders have left DAP and most times the reason they give is because the party does not tolerate dissent. These dissenters accuse Kit Siang of perpetuating a dictatorship and of building a political dynasty. If only some say this you could raise doubts but when scores say this there must be some truth in the allegation.

Kit Siang is the least qualified to criticise Umno when DAP epitomises an undemocratic party where no one is allowed to criticise its leaders or challenge its authority.  Does Kit Siang not realise he is spitting into the wind?

Menteri luah kebimbangan mengenai penculikan paderi

06 Mac 2017
"Bayangkan kesedihan orang tersayang apabila membaca mesej sedemikian?" katanya.
“Sebaliknya, marilah kita berdoa agar paderi Koh selamat pulang," katanya.

Salleh expresses concern over pastor's abduction

06 March 2017

Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has expressed concern over the abduction of pastor Raymond Koh, and urged all quarters not to jump to conclusions.

He said the police are doing their best to trace the whereabouts of the pastor, who has been missing since Feb 13, based on the leads available.

Salleh pointed out that when it involved abduction cases, the police must exercise caution in order to protect the victim, therefore not all details related to the investigation can be made public.

On the same note, the minister urged the police to solve this case as soon as possible.

“I can sympathise with the despair and frustration that his loved ones and friends are feeling. But we cannot allow anger to cloud our judgement.

“I have seen numerous messages and claims circulating linking this case to religious differences even before the police have established a motive for the abduction.

“We cannot allow our emotions to get the better of us. I am sure that as a person dedicated to the service of God, pastor Koh himself would not want us to sow the seeds of religious animosity in his name,” he told Malaysiakini.

Salleh also admonished those responsible for circulating a message claiming that the pastor was killed and the police have recovered his mutilated remains.

“Imagine the grief of his loved ones upon reading such a message?” he said.

“Imagine what harm it can do this nation, when believe such messages to be the truth? So please, let us not make the situation worse. Let us pray for the pastor's safe return instead,” he added.

Whatever the motive, Salleh said the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The DAP-led Pakatan Ali Baba

Salleh Said Keruak

The perception that the opposition tried to create is that Pakatan is a Malay-led coalition and not a DAP-led coalition. This, however, has been proven to be a fallacy as it is apparent that Lim Kit Siang is very much in control of Pakatan and he dictates what happens.

Many now realise that both Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim are mere props and, like most Malays in DAP, are being used as mascots to attract Malay voters when, in fact, they both have no say in Pakatan since neither are Members of Parliament.

Basically, as Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, who saw through this charade, said today, Mahathir and Anwar created the perfect Ali Baba situation for DAP to hide behind. DAP knows that on its own it cannot woo the Malay voters so they need Mahathir and Anwar to do that.

The UMNO-led Barisan Nasional does not operate this way and would never resort to trickery to deceive the voters because we work transparently and with mutual respect for one another within the coalition. We also do not make U-turns just to suit the political needs of certain individuals at the expense of the party or the coalition like what the opposition leaders do.

HRH the Sultan speaks out again

Salleh Said Keruak

Today HRH the Sultan of Johor gave the worst-ever dressing down to who he referred to as demented-leader, who many believe His Highness meant Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. And this is not the first time Mahathir has been given an earful by His Highness, mind you.

It would be wise for Mahathir to heed what His Highness said. The fact that His Highness was forced to rebuke Mahathir shows that he has gone beyond the boundary of decency where even His Highness can no longer tolerate it.

Mahathir now appears unable to separate his personal grudge from the interest of the nation. Mahathir is bringing ridicule upon himself and he has only himself to blame for it.

This is just the beginning for DAP

Salleh Said Keruak

The resignation of the four DAP representatives from Melaka proves what many have known for some time: which is the DAP grassroots leaders are not happy about Lim Kit Siang flirting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. For some time many DAP leaders have been unhappy with Kit Siang and Guan Eng and now it appears to have finally reached breaking point.

There are many more in DAP who feel the same way but for the sake of the party they do not want to rock the boat. There are also Malays who support Pakatan but who are unhappy with Mahathir's role in the opposition. What Dr Wan Azizah Ismail said yesterday expresses the sentiments of many Malays.

The credibility and integrity of both DAP and Pakatan Harapan have suffered these last two years because of the unholy alliance between Mahathir and Kit Siang. All the gains the opposition made in 2008 and 2013 are going to be lost in the next general election.

No one doubts that both Mahathir and Kit Siang are serving their personal political agenda at the sacrifice of the interest of the voters. And the voters will show their unhappiness in the next election if this state of affairs continues.

The fact that Mahathir and Kit Siang said many nasty things about each other in the past and now embrace each other demonstrates a lack of principles and morals. As much as you may be united by a common objective, you still need to maintain some level of honour and integrity.

The damage, however, has already been done and after this U-turn it will be impossible to do yet another U-turn. The main unhappiness is with Kit Siang and Guan Eng so it does not take a genius to figure out the solution.

‘NEGARAKU’ INITIATIVE INSTILLS POSITIVITY, PRIDE AND BELIEF FOR THE NATION

Press Statement YB Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Salleh Tun Said Keruak
Menteri Komunikasi dan Multimedia

‘NEGARAKU’ INITIATIVE INSTILLS POSITIVITY, PRIDE AND BELIEF FOR THE NATION

8 February 2017 - As we embark upon the year 2017, let us be thankful that Malaysia has been blessed with peace and harmony ever since our national anthem ‘Negaraku’ was played. Despite its young age, our nation has made tremendous progress and is on par with the world’s giants in many aspects. Without a doubt, the key to our success is in the unity of our people, and thus, we must remain united despite condemnations from those who have ill intentions.

Unfortunately, this negativity has in some way threatened the loyalty and pride of some for our country. It is our responsibility to rally together and celebrate our love for Malaysia; never let this love fade, but let it inspire us to nourish our nation’s glory.

We as Malaysians must instill in ourselves the spirit of ‘Negaraku’ – an initiative launched by the government that is driven by the love and passion for our country, innate in all Malaysians. The spirit of ‘Negaraku’ encourages us to embrace whatever differences we may have and come together as one people to inspire positivity, pride and belief for our great nation.

Building on Tunku Abdul Rahman’s statement that unity is our fundamental strength as a people and as a nation, the spirit of ‘Negaraku’ can only truly materialise by carrying the voice of Malaysians from all walks of life, regardless of race and ideology.

The journey that we took together to develop Malaysia into what it is today was not without its growing pains. Yet, our hearts are made stronger by holding on to the spirit of ‘Negaraku’ through our bleakest moments. It has made us conscientious in evaluating right from wrong, understand each other better and given us strength to defend the honour of this country, our country.

Therefore, let us come together to galvanize the spirit of ‘Negaraku’ even further and drive our nation to greater heights. My Country, My Nation, Negaraku.

Kit Siang needs more tuition from Tony Pua

Salleh Said Keruak

Today Lim Kit Siang asked me to take tuition from Tony Pua to improve my knowledge on financial matters, "as a little knowledge is dangerous", Kit Siang said. I take it Kit Siang has himself been tutored by Tony, whom he seems to regard as a financial guru.

What Kit Siang listed down in his blog are merely the operational issues involved in doing business. Companies raise funds from various sources to buy assets and do business. That is quite normal unless the company starts business with a huge paid up capital. And in 1MDB's case the start up capital was only RM1 million.

The issue here is did 1MDB physically lose RM42 billion like what has been alleged? Tun Dr Mahathir said RM42 billion has lesap or disappeared into thin air. This would mean 1MDB has nothing to show for it. That is not true because 1MDB has RM51 billion worth of assets to show for it plus ongoing development for the next couple of decades.

So I do not need tutoring from Tony, like Kit Siang does, to understand something so fundamental. And I did not attend the Save Malaysia Roundtable because the event was not about saving Malaysia but had other ulterior motives and hidden agendas.

On the BMF and Bank Negara Forex issues, which Kit Siang mentioned, those are real and physical losses with no benefit to the country. On the other hand, 1MDB is a going concern. Maybe Kit Siang should change tutors if Tony did not explain this to him.

RCI only needed on BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals

Salleh Said Keruak

Lim Kit Siang and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are sour grapes and are not comparing apples-to-apples when they say a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) is needed not just for the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals but also for 1MDB as well.

Maybe Kit Siang and Mahathir overlooked the fact that 1MDB has already been investigated by the PAC, Special Task Force, Auditor-General, Attorney-General, PDRM, MACC, etc., plus reports regarding the matter prepared. Regarding the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals, however, no such thing was done and, in fact, at that time Parliament was misinformed about the matter and only today are we discovering the truth.

The government’s real exposure in 1MDB is only RM1 million, the initial paid up capital. Mahathir, however, is creating the impression that the government lost RM42 billion, which is not true and is a fabrication. In the case of the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals, though, the losses were real and substantial and involved massive capital injections and bail-outs to avoid bankruptcy. While the finances of 1MDB is an open book, until today we do not know the truth regarding the finances related to the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals. That is why the need for a RCI on these two matters.

The government has never needed to bail out 1MDB with any capital injection (other than the initial RM1 million capital injection) like in the case of the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals, which cost the country hundreds of billions. Even then we do not know how much the amount really was, unlike  in 1MDB’s case. And only a RCI can get to the truth regarding the BMF and Bank Negara Forex scandals.

Mahathir cannot explain this away so easily

Salleh Said Keruak

The latest revelations regarding the BMF and Forex scandals have put Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a very awkward position. As much as he is attempting to explain away the issue and treat them as if they are not material, it invariably reveals his hypocrisy and doubled standards. This is the conclusion anyone would draw from his recent very defensive chedet.com posting.

Without question the CIA report exposes Mahathir's responsibility in this mega-billion loss suffered by the country. And as usual Mahathir blames others except himself for this financial disaster. The BMF and Forex scandals makes Mahathir the last person in Malaysia qualified and credible enough to ask Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to step down from office citing 1MDB as the excuse.

While Mahathir refuses to accept responsibility for the BMF and Forex scandals, he is using the  1MDB issue as an excuse to topple the Prime Minister. The truth is 1MDB was sabotaged to turn it into a problem and it started with the sabotage of the IPO.

Mahathir's ludicrous conspiracy theory

Salleh Said Keruak

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the recently-released CIA report implicating him in the 1983 multi-billion BMF scandal is meant to demonise him. And the reason the CIA wants to demonise him, said Mahathir, is because he criticises the US.

If that is true why did the CIA wait 34 years to do this? They would have done it when he was still Prime Minister and not now when he is no longer important to the US.

Actually the BMF report is just two pages of 13 million pages that the CIA declassified and is purely coincidental. The CIA did not declassify just these two pages regarding the BMF issue alone.

Many countries declassify documents that are classified or under the Official Secrets Act after 25, 35, or more, years depending on the sensitivity of those documents. Some, of course, remain classified forever. But for Mahathir to suggest the CIA declassified 13 million pages of documents just so that they can leak two pages related to BMF aimed at demonising him is ludicrous.

Is Kit Siang the Opposition Leader or Shadow PM?

Salleh Said Keruak

Lim Kit Siang has challenged Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to a debate. Maybe Kit Siang has forgotten he is just the Chairman of DAP. He is not even the leader of Pakatan Harapan so that does not put him at the same level as the Prime Minister, who is the Chairman of Barisan Nasional.

If Kit Siang is Pakatan Harapan's leader or the Shadow Prime Minister then this gives him some leverage to demand that Najib debate him.

Kit Siang must first take over as Pakatan Harapan's leader from Dr Wan Azizah Ismail and officially announce he is Pakatan's Shadow Prime Minister before challenging Najib to a debate.

Mahathir's normal warped logic

Salleh Said Keruak

Today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad replied to the interview by HRH the Sultan of Johor that was carried by The Star yesterday and, yet again, he uses his usual warped logic to reply to His Highness.

For example, Mahathir said he was using foreign news reports as his point of reference and since these reports have not been challenged or denied then they must be true. Using that same logic much has also been said about Mahathir which he also has not denied. And it was Mahathir who said not all foreign reports are true.

Mahathir then went on to explain the difference between acceptable and unacceptable FDI. Foreigners are welcome to invest in Malaysia as long as they do not benefit and only Malaysia benefits. Investors will only invest in any country if it benefits them, such as during Mahathir's time when he allowed them tax holidays and guaranteed them cheap labour. Investors are out to make profits and not to do charity work and Mahathir knows this.

Mahathir has his own ideas on how things should be done but a lot of those ideas are outdated and no longer work. Mahathir should brush up on his knowledge on how things are done nowadays and what the word globalisation means. The world is now  borderless and Mahathir needs to come to terms with this.

Cyber-related laws reviewed holistically to promote Internet Economy

Salleh Said Keruak
Minister of Communication and MultiMedia

All cyber-related laws are being reviewed and looked at in a holistic manner towards developing the Internet Economy in Malaysia.

As our Prime Minister announced during the 2017 Budget speech, this year will be the year of the Internet Economy for Malaysia. In order for us to develop our Internet Economy, consumers must have trust in the networks.

In fact, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 had been reviewed over the past 18 months with a view to improving the online environment. Some of the considerations made during the review is the need to develop interoperable and enabling platforms to increase the volume of digital transactions and harness data as a resource. Such platforms include payment systems, identity verification, cloud services and big data analytics.

The review also takes into account the need to improve security and build greater trust in existing networks as more transactions will attract more risks.

The review of the CMA 1998 has been completed and the proposed amendments will be tabled as soon as the review of other relevant laws is completed.

Initially, the amendments were supposed to have been tabled a year ago, however, with other legislation being reviewed and new laws to be introduced, particularly in the area of cyber security, the amendments to the CMA 1998 were put on hold so that everything could be approached collectively.

I am confident that this holistic approach and the proposed amendments to the CMA 1998 will facilitate a healthy online environment and help to promote more digital transactions.

News can be fake or real, depending on what you choose to believe.

Salleh Said Keruak

I’ve said this before and I will say it again – verify before you vilify your source of news information. It is very unfortunate to know that many people still cling on to mistaken beliefs and theories that could even be decades old!

Fabricated news stories and irresponsible online news sources spread misinformation in order to mislead and/or make money when others click on the site or article. This makes fake news much more insidious than real news.

According to an analysis by BuzzFeed, a leading independent digital media company, hoaxes about the US politics were among the top-performing fake news content on Facebook in 2016. BuzzFeed News Media Editor, Craig Silverman said that twenty-three of the 50 top-performing fake news hoaxes found on Facebook, were focused on US politics.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg addresses the proliferation of fake news on his Facebook account, “The bottom line is: we take misinformation seriously. Our goal is to connect people with the stories they find most meaningful, and we know people want accurate information.”

In that same post, Zuckerberg shares how the Facebook community can help Facebook understand what is fake and what is not, as well as outlining some of the projects that are underway to minimize misinformation.

In using social media and other communication platforms, we need to be responsible users, so don’t be too quick to hit the Share, Forward or RT button without verifying the piece of news.

This is called globalisation

Salleh Said Keruak

UK car sales for 2016 achieved a record figure of 2.7 million cars sold. That is the best year ever for the UK motor industry.

Mini saw an increase in sales of 8.5%, Land Rover 19.47% and Jaguar 45.37%. The irony of this is that all these British brands are now foreign owned.

Even Volvo is doing much better since the Chinese took over the company whereas it was on the verge of closing down earlier.

This is the reality of the business world today. Sentiments and national pride must not get in the way of business decisions. Sometimes hard decisions need to be made for the business to remain viable.

Mahathir is stuck in the past

Salleh Said Keruak

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks show that he is still thinking 'old school' and does not realise that the world has changed since the time he was Malaysia's Prime Minister 14 years ago.

Since the 1990's China, which was a sleeping giant for hundreds of years, suddenly woke up and once awake there was nothing that could stop them.

It is futile trying to resist China's great march forward just like it was futile to resist Western colonisation 500 years ago. China is on the move and no one can stop them .

All over the world China is investing, going into partnership, and is buying up assets like never before in history. This is a phenomena countries like Malaysia need to accept or else get left behind and perish.

We have been warned that while globalisation does have its good side it also means the creation of a bordeless world and the end of protectionism. You cannot expect FDI or money to flow into your country and yet not be prepared to relinquish control of certain assets.

This is the reality of the 'new world' and Mahathir needs to wake up to this. The other alternative is to adopt a closed-door policy and move backwards and remain poor.

Mahathir needs to be consistent

Salleh Said Keruak

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's latest blog posting shows his inconsistency and his lack of understanding regarding the meaning of FDI. He also does not understand sovereignty.

'Foreign land' refers to sovereignty. The UK, in particular in London, is probably a good example where a lot of property is owned by foreigners. But the UK still has sovereignty over all that property. Only in cases of foreign embassies does it differ.

If foreigners are allowed to purchase land in Malaysia that enhances the value of the property. That does not give the foreigners sovereignty over the land they bought. They are still on Malaysian soil.

Attracting FDI comes in many forms. It could be manufacturing plants, trading companies, property investments, resorts, clubs, etc. All attract FDIs. Mahathir somehow has the notion that FDI only means factories. Even golf courses set up by foreigners attract FDIs.

Many foreigners in any country in the world would certainly change the social structure of any country. That is why more than 50% of British voted in favour of Brexit. But what does Mahathir mean  by major impact on the political landscape of the nation in future? Can he be specific? What exactly is he referring to? Is he talking about Malay political power?

Mahathir is the one who is saying that Umno must be defeated in the next general election. Now he says the opposite. So which one does Mahathir want? Mahathir wants to change the political landscape of Malaysia and then grumbles about the possibility that foreigners will change the political landscape.
